Reyes Announces Grassroots

Campaign Co-Chairs

Group Will Help Organize on Behalf of Reyes in Their Communities

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Building on the momentum from last week’s campaign announcement, Democrat Victor Reyes today announced five Grassroots Co-Chairs for his campaign for Congress. The co-chairs will help organize support for Reyes in their communities and across the district.

“As I’ve said from the beginning -- this is going to be a people-powered campaign and I’m going to work hard to earn the support of every voter and community leader,” said Reyes. “Today I am honored to announce our campaign’s Grassroots Co-Chairs. They are so well respected in our community and will help strengthen our campaign and broaden our support across the district.”

Joining Reyes’ campaign as Grassroots Co-Chairs are:

  • Jantina Eshleman, Torrance County Community Leader, 2018 Democratic Pre-Primary Convention Delegate

  • Paula Fisher, Labor leader, public employee advocate, and Democratic State Central Committee Member

  • Judy Griego, former Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services and former New Mexico Air National Guard Brigadier General

  • Joe Noriega, Democratic Activist

  • Romaine Serna, Democratic Activist, Child Advocate, and Democratic State Central Committee Member

“When I met Victor several years ago I was most impressed by his energy and his drive,” said co-chair Jantina Eshleman. “I have been able to share and commiserate with him about the fears and frustration in the financial battle to receive quality, comprehensive health care. Victor is wholly committed to taking those concerns to Washington in representing New Mexico's 1st District. I need him there. We all need him there.”

“When I was the Secretary of New Mexico Department of Veteran’s Services I saw first hand how hard Victor is willing to fight for those who have served our country,” said co-chair Judy Griego. “I look forward to spreading the word about his grassroots campaign amongst our veterans and military families.”

“I am so proud to support Victor Reyes for Congress,” said co-chair Joe Noriega. “Sixty-five years ago my grandparents immigrated from Chihuahua, Mexico to the United States under the Braceros Program. They left their home in search of stable work and a better promise for themselves and their children. Victor understands the challenges New Mexico’s immigrants and working people face and I know he’ll always be on our side. I’m excited to get to work to help him bring a new voice to Washington on our behalf.”

In his video announcement, Reyes said, “Growing up, my mother always told me: ‘Tienes que ser una voz para los que sienten que no tienen las palabras o el poder.’ You’ve got to be a voice for the people who feel they don’t have the words or the power themselves. That’s what being a representative in Congress should be all about. That’s what I’ve done my whole life.

“In Congress, I’ll stand strong for Medicare for All and a Green New Deal that protects our treasured air, land, and water. I’ll fight for racial justice, reproductive justice, and LGBTQ and transgender rights. Together, with the support of the voters of the district, we’ll prioritize criminal justice reform and provide real support for our families and small businesses amid this pandemic. Just like I’ve done here in New Mexico, I’ll never back down to the NRA and the gun lobby. When it comes to being there for our educators and organized labor, you know you can always count on me. We can only do this together. And we will.”
